IPX Intern Program
Posted: April 14, 2026
Overview
IPX works with Auburn researchers to provide expertise, guidance, and support for the protection and public
adoption of intellectual property (IP) they create. IPX also facilitates the licensing of that intellectual property
to partners capable of developing it further and bringing It to the marketplace for public benefit. Student
Interns assist IPX in these efforts and gain skills in IP, business development, marketing, and related areas.
Schedule
The program runs year round with an 8-10 hour/week minimum during fall/spring semesters and more time
possible during the summer. Pay runs $15/hour for undergraduate and $18/hour for graduate students. Two
semester commitment required
Responsibilities
Interns will assist IPX Licensing Officers in assessing the protectability and market potential of Auburn
Innovations with the goal of identifying commercial partners to translate the Innovation to a product or
service. Interns will learn about assessing and protecting IP, technology transfer at a university, and
considerations for advancing IP from initial conception to the marketplace. These and other skills translate
well to careers in or outside of academia, including applied research, early stage product development,
business or economic development, patent law, management consulting/analyst, technology transfer, and
more. Interns may also have opportunities to attend training opportunities such as courses similar to the NSF
I-Corps Program.
Interns will perform a variety of projects involving AI-assisted tools, such as:
- Patentability/Protectability Assessments
- Cemmerical assessments, competitive landscape research, overall technology evaluation
- Development and support of Marketing campaigns
- Custom projects, as needed
Space is available at IPX for working in-person, if desired. Periodic in-person meetings and training required.
