AU Civil and Environmental Engineering Department - Undergraduate Research Assistant
Posted: January 17, 2023
Overview and Duties
An undergraduate research assistant position is available to support Dr. David Roueche's work within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
Students will perform virtual damage assessments using data from some of the most destructive recent windstorms, including Hurricane Ian, the Mayfield, KY, tornado, and more, that were collected by the NSF Structural Extreme Events Reconnaissance (StEER) network. Students will virtually immerse themselves in 360 streetview data and 3D point clouds (developed from photos taken by drones) documenting these events, and generate standardized building performance datasets that will inform the development of future building codes and standards. Students will have the opportunity to learn about common building practices, see how buildings perform under the most extreme events, and learn how to utilize Artificial Intelligence as a tool to augment human assessments.
