Computer Science & Software Internship Story: Roadway Management Technologies, LLC
Muhammad Gulfam
Computer Science & Software Engineering
Where did you intern?
I worked as Data analyst intern II in the company named “ROADWAY MANAGEMENT TECHNOLOGIES, LLC”. I worked remotely while the company is based in Little Rock Arkansas.
How did you find and apply for your internship?
I Attended a virtual career fair conducted by the Auburn University. I received email about the event and scheduled reservation for meeting with few employers. The career fair was conducted in March 2022.
What was the application process like?
Process consisted of two interviews. First interview during career fair meeting which was more of an introductory meeting for both of us. The second interview was a planned technical and behavioral interview.
Tell us about your internship experience. What types of tasks and projects did you engage in? Was there a particular project or part of the experience you learned the most from?
My experience was great. I worked on a research project which involved working with data and developing AI solution to solve the problem in hand. We made a descent progress. All in all, it was a great experience both from technical point of view, as I learned many things, and from corporate experience point of view, as I learned few things about the work environment in a software-based company.
In what ways did this internship help you prepare for your next destination after Auburn?
I learned few things about the work culture and work etiquettes. I worked on a project from end to end which was a great experience. Facing different challenges and developing strategies to tackle those challenges taught me a lot and now I feel much more confident, both technically and strategically. I am sure this experience will be very valuable in my career moving forward.
In what ways did your coursework or other experiences at Auburn prepare you for your internships? Are there specific topics or skills you learned from classes that you put into practice on the job?
I had taken few courses here in Auburn University that covered many things that I needed to use during my internship. So, study in Auburn University prepared me technically for the role of data analyst intern II while I never worked as data analyst intern I. Specific topics that I learned during my classes were training machine learning and deep learning models for solving the problem with data. It is just a tip of iceberg; I learned many useful things that I cannot put in words or are not at the top of my head at this point.
Do you have any advice for other students looking for internships like yours?
Try to grab every single opportunity that you see. Don’t be afraid of failure. We NEED the lessons from the failures to achieve success that we are looking for.
