University of Chicago | Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates in Molecular Engineering

Join the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering’s NSF-funded Summer 2024 REU to:
• Gain authentic research experience led by mentoring teams of PME researchers
• Learn and use tools of immunoengineering, materials science, and quantum engineering as you lead research work
• Take part in professional development workshops on research ethics, graduate school exploration and application, fellowships, and science communications
• Receive resources and support for the graduate school application process
• Build your academic and professional network with researchers in multidisciplinary research environments and national labs
• Present your research work to the University community and the general public through museum partnerships

Program Overview

The program is open to 10 students during a 10-week summer research program and features:

  • Support from a mentoring team of PME researchers;
  • Immersion in the University’s research culture, including faculty research seminars and lab safety and ethics training;
  • Science communication training and the opportunity to present your work to the University community and the general public through a partnership with local museums;
  • Resources and support for the graduate school application process; and
  • Guidance preparing a written report of your work, and optional follow-through support beyond the summer to write technical reports and prepare a paper for submission to a conference.

Eligibility

  • Undergraduates with background in chemistry, physics, biology, computer science, or math who are interested in pursuing a career in science
  • Members of minority groups underrepresented in science, first generation college students, and undergraduates from small colleges and non-research universities are strongly encouraged to apply
  • Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents enrolled in an undergraduate college

Support

  • $6,000 stipend
  • Modest travel allowance
  • Housing and meals for the duration of the program
  • Access to libraries, athletic facilities, and substantial discounts to University-sponsored social and cultural events

  • Applications Close: February 15, 2024
