This is a one-day classroom course (takes places over two half-days). The objective is to ensure that individuals who will use nuclear density gauges and nuclear asphalt content gauges understand the appropriate safety procedures with the gauges. Topics to be covered include: the health hazards of the radioactive materials; the pertinent rules and regulations of the Radiological Safety Manual and the State of Alabama Radiation Protection Regulations published by the State of Alabama Department of Public Health, Bureau of Environmental Health; and the manufacturer's instructions for the gauge being used.
This course is a prerequisite to the Earthwork/Base Technician, Asphalt Level I Technician, and Radiation Safety Officer courses. This course is also a prerequisite for non ALDOT technicians who wish to take the Roadway Technician course.
Registration fee: $275/student
Written retake: $150/student
Costs for housing, food and transportation are the responsibility of each participant. Registration fees must be paid at time of registration. Registration closes 2 weeks prior to start date of course or when class is full, whichever comes first. Cancellations received at least 2 weeks prior to the course start date will result in a full refund. No refunds will be provided for course cancellations after that date; however, substitutions will be accepted.
