This is a four-day classroom and laboratory course that takes place over two half-days and three full days. The emphasis is the accomplishment of the test procedures necessary to control the quality of asphalt pavements. It will include a review of the asphalt plant and how to produce quality asphalt mixtures, volumetric analysis of asphalt, a discussion of sampling of asphalt mixtures, techniques for obtaining and handling samples and random sampling, and a detailed review of Rice & bulk specific gravity, laboratory compaction of asphalt mixtures (Marshall & Superpave), determination of asphalt content by ignition and nuclear gauge, determination of gradation by extraction, and determination of fine aggregate angularity and clay content (sand equivalent).
The Radiation Safety course is a prerequisite for this course.

Written retake fee: $150/student
Costs for housing, food and transportation are the responsibility of each participant. Registration fees must be paid at time of registration. Registration closes 2 weeks prior to start date of course or when class is full, whichever comes first. Cancellations received at least 2 weeks prior to the course start date will result in a full refund. No refunds will be provided for course cancellations after that date; however, substitutions will be accepted.
