Camp ROC (Reaching Our Children) provides instruction in the areas of reading and reading comprehension, math, science, financial and computer literacy for students from at-risk populations in grades 5 to 12. The six week summer day camp is designed to provide a structure that will improve students at a fundamental level, increasing their confidence, awareness of new technologies and giving them the understanding that computers are just tools to aid them in a quest for a better future.
During the camp, students are exposed to personal productivity software (e.g. Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.), introductory programming in HTML and web page design, and computing and keyboard fundamentals. They also learn how to use these tools in the workplace and in their personal lives. Sample lessons include, Word, the history of computers, PowerPoint for final presentations and business proposals, and keyboarding.
