Huaguo Zhou, the Elton Z. and Lois G. Huff Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, was recently awarded for his research on intoxicated drivers and engineering measures to prevent wrong-way driving.
CEE professor awarded for research on wrong-way driving countermeasures
Huaguo Zhou, the Elton Z. and Lois G. Huff Professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering, was recognized by the California Department of Transportation for his study on intoxicated drivers, which identified effective engineering countermeasures to prevent wrong-way driving and will be presented at the 2025 Transportation Research Board meeting.

CEE assistant professor examines temperature change impact on permafrost
Ali Khosravi, an assistant professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, is teaming up with Bart Prorok, a materials engineering professor, Paul Bartley, an assistant professor in horticulture at Auburn University and his twin brother, Mohammad Khosravi, an associate professor at Montana State University. Together, they aim to improve the understanding of how climate change impacts permafrost, enhancing predictions about permafrost thaw and its effects on infrastructure in Arctic and sub-Arctic regions.

Michael Perez, director of the AU-SRF and Brasfield & Gorrie associate professor in civil and environmental engineering, is the principal investigator (PI) on the three-year, $750,000 grant from the National Academy of Sciences’ National Cooperative Highway Research Program.
AU-SRF to develop erosion and sediment control design guidelines
Auburn University's Stormwater Research Facility (AU-SRF) has been tasked with creating design guidelines for erosion and sediment control practices used on highway construction sites to minimize stormwater pollution.
