Student Organizations

To support the unique needs of students within the College of Engineering, students have the opportunity to join several student-led organizations with a diversity focus. These organizations are open to any student, and each encourages professional development and community building for underrepresented groups in engineering. An undergraduate representative from each of these organizations sits on the Engineering Inclusion and Diversity Committee.

Practical Inclusion Strategies for Student Leaders

For more than six decades, the Society of Women Engineers has given women engineers a unique place and voice within the engineering industry. The Auburn SWE chapter is centered around a passion for our members' success and continues to evolve with the challenges and opportunities reflected in today's exciting engineering and technology specialties. The purpose of NSBE is "to increase the number of culturally responsible Black Engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community."
SHPE is a leading social-technical organization whose primary function is to enhance and achieve the potential of Hispanics in science, technology, math and science.
OSTEM is a national organization dedicated to supporting and empowering LGBTQ+ individuals who work in STEM fields or pursue STEM majors. We help students find academic and professional resources that suit their unique needs, work with faculty in the College of Engineering and COSAM to help them develop inclusive classroom practices, and provide LGBTQ+ students in STEM majors a feeling of community so they know they are not alone. Additionally, we have a strict privacy policy to prevent any members from being outed for their participation.


College of Engineering Programs

The Samuel Ginn College of Engineering provides programs through its administrative offices to bolster the sense of inclusion, recruitment, and success of underrepresented students.  From pre-college through graduation, these programs provide students with the support they need to become leaders in engineering and promote an inclusive environment in the college.  

  • Celebrating over 25 years of student support, the Center for Inclusive Engineering Excellence strengthens the recruitment and retention of underrepresented students in the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering. This office supports participants both in and out of the classroom by focusing on expanding academic preparation and career readiness.
  • 100+ Women Strong , housed under the Office of Development, is made up of alumni and friends of the college who embrace our vision to provide resources and programming that will enable us to recruit, retain and reward female students in Auburn Engineering.  Though not a student organization, 100+ Women Strong provides mentoring, scholarships, and professional development events to help recruit, retain, and reward female students in the College of Engineering.  100+ Women Strong also recognizes outstanding leadership in the College of Engineering by sponsoring the 100+ Women Strong Leadership Awards each spring.
  • Student Organization or Group Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Experience Award. This award allows engineering student organizations or groups of 2 or more students the opportunity to receive funding to host a DEI-related event or activity during the 2023-24 school year. Proposals should:
    • Focus on developing a sense of community in which all participants feel welcomed and valued.
    • Foster collaborative programming and partnerships
    • Focus on creating new capacity of enhancing existing efforts.
    • Introduce sustainable programs/initiatives that increase appreciation and awareness for a diverse community.
    • Focus on a broad constituency within the College.
    • Promote intercultural dialogue and understanding of DEI issues.

      Include a detailed breakdown of associated costs and how each cost benefits the overall mission/goal of the proposed activity or event.

The Samuel Ginn College of Engineering is committed to supporting all students through their scholastic program. For the 2022-23 academic year, over $4.7 million was awarded by the college to engineering students. 

Students must apply through the Auburn University Scholarship Opportunity Manager (AUSOM) each year to receive consideration for engineering scholarships. AUSOM’s online features and benefits allow students to search, review requirements, apply and accept awards for available scholarship opportunities, all within one easy-to-use site.

Students are also encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to receive financial aid. The FAFSA is available online and should be received for consideration of financial aid, including need-based scholarships.

Engineering Academic and Career Development Support

  • The Samuel Ginn College of Engineering is dedicated to offering academic and career development support to all students.  The Office of Engineering Student Services offers services to prospective and current students, including scholarships, academic advising, academic support and tutoring, engineering global programs, and other administrative support.  The Office of Career Development and Corporate Relations provides customized, student-centered career coaching and resources, as well as cultivating industry-focused partnerships.

Student Diversity Training 

  • Student Diversity Training   I  The College of Engineering holds periodic trainings on diversity, equity, and inclusion topics for students.  To request a training for your organization or for more information, access the training request form .
  • Safe Zone Training I An interactive, 4-hour training designed to educate faculty, staff, and students about sexual orientation and gender identity to create a safe space for LGBTQ+ students. Request a departmental training or register for a regularly scheduled session through Human Resources Development.
  • Office of Inclusion and Diversity I  Access more information on university wide diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

Professional Development

Understanding diversity, equity, and inclusion concepts is a professional skill that will benefit students beyond their education.  Across disciplines, companies and professional organizations recognize the value of an inclusive workforce.
