Going back to school has never been easier. Auburn Engineering Online and Continuing Education offers courses leading to the degree of Master of Civil Engineering with an emphasis in pavements and materials, bringing our expertise directly to you. Ranked 12th in U.S. News and World Report’s 2019 Best Online Engineering Programs, this on-campus equivalent combines traditional instruction with modern delivery methods to offer graduate degrees beyond Auburn’s campus.
The program is structured to advance the working engineer’s knowledge and skills in the rapidly changing field of pavement engineering. Engineers in the pavements and materials area are responsible for roadway design, construction, maintenance and rehabilitation. Pavements – a primary component of transportation infrastructure – are engineered with a strong understanding of materials behavior, mechanistic principles and construction details.
Pavement engineering courses are taught by Auburn’s outstanding civil engineering faculty and research professors from the National Center for Asphalt Technology.
Students have up to six years to complete 30 semester hours of online graduate-level classes, which may include a three-credit hour civil engineering project.
Course work may include:
*Requires a week-long lab at the National Center for Asphalt Technology
Courses in areas such as concrete materials, geotechnical, engineering, transportation, and other related subjects are also available online. A plan of study must be approved by the student’s advisory committee.
Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a similar field from an accredited institution and must take the GRE prior to entering the graduate online program. Engineering students who hold a bachelor’s degree or post-baccalaureate degree may apply as a non-degree student for personal development, to obtain certification or recertification, to pursue a graduate certificate, or to take a limited number of courses prior to enrolling in a graduate degree program.
An online application should be completed at least 60 days before the semester starts. Additional submissions are required, including a statement of purpose, three letters of recommendation, GRE scores, and college transcripts. Non-degree applicants must submit an application and official transcript showing the highest degree earned.
