The Office of Recruiting, Outreach and Scholarship recently collaborated with 100+ Women Strong to host their second annual SHEroes event, aimed at encouraging 9th and 10th grade female students to explore the field of engineering. Auburn Engineering students, faculty and staff welcomed the students to campus for a specially curated program of activities. The event was open to anyone who wanted to attend, with an aim toward prospective women in STEM.

“It was so much fun to host these students on campus and to see their eyes light up when they learned about engineering,” said Jessica Taylor, Director of Recruiting and Scholarships.

The day included a panel discussion with current female engineering students, where they shared experiences and imparted words of advice to the younger attendees. The group heard from females in several departments, who spoke about their college experiences and helped the audience learn more about being a student at Auburn.

Afterward, the highschoolers were given an engineering tour and participated in a hands-on activity in the Makerspace. Makerspace staff led the students through making personal keychains using a laser cutter.

“I am confident the students who came to this event left campus knowing Auburn University is the best place to pursue an engineering degree thanks to the hard work of our team, alumni and students,” Taylor said.
