Twenty-two scholars from the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering are ranked among the world’s top two percent of all independently cited researchers, according to a study recently released by Stanford University.
For the annual report, “Updated science-wide author databases of standardized citation indicators,” a database of more than 180,000 scholars worldwide, which extends across 176 subdisciplines and the studies of 9 million scholars who managed to publish five scientific articles or more, was examined. The report counted all-time citations of each scholar, excluding self-citations, through September 2021.
Auburn Engineering scholars who placed in the top two percentile of all researchers listed are (in alphabetical order):
- Sabit Adanur, professor of mechanical engineering
- Sushil Adhikari, professor of biosystems engineering and director of the Center for Bioenergy and Bioproducts
- Prathima Agrawal, professor emeritus of electrical and computer engineering
- Vishwani Agrawal, professor emeritus of electrical and computer engineering
- David Bevly, Bill and Lana McNair Distinguished Professor of mechanical engineering
- ZhongYang Cheng, alumni professor of materials engineering
- Bryan Chin, professor emeritus of mechanical engineering
- Oladiran Fasina, department chair and professor of biosystems engineering
- Jeffrey Fergus, associate dean for undergraduate studies and program assessment
- John Hung, professor emeritus of electrical and computer engineering
- Robert Jackson, professor of mechanical engineering
- Jay Khodadadi, alumni professor of mechanical engineering
- Eduard Muljadi, professor of electrical and computer engineering
- Joseph Majdalani, Hugh and Loeda Francis Chair of Excellence and professor of aerospace engineering
- Guofu Niu, Ed and Peggy Reynolds Family Professor of electrical and computer engineering
- Andrzej Nowak, professor and chair of civil and environmental engineering
- Xiao Qin, alumni professor and director of the computer science and software engineering department graduate programs
- Larry Rilett, director of the Auburn University Transportation Research Institute
- Stanley Reeves, professor of electrical and computer engineering
- Alice Smith, Joe W. Forehand/Accenture Distinguished Professor of industrial and systems engineering
- Peter Schwartz, professor emeritus of mechanical engineering
- Jeff Suhling, Quina Professor and department chair of mechanical engineering
“One of the foundations of our rich history as a university is the cutting-edge research conducted here at Auburn,” said Steve Taylor, interim dean of engineering. “These professors, recognized through this study, are playing a major part in changing the world for the better through their research, and it’s an honor to have them recognized nationally and among their peers for their outstanding work.”
Metrics for the study included the number of citations, h-index (productivity and citation impact of publications), co-authorship adjusted hm-index, citations to papers through a variety of authorship positions, and a composite indicator.
