When it comes to job interviews, it can never hurt to practice.

The Engineering Young Alumni Council is hosting mock interviews and resume reviews for current engineering students on Thursday, Sept. 15.

Students will have the opportunity to practice and improve their interview skills by being paired with a recent engineering alum for their mock interview and will receive feedback. Interviews will be conducted from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the day of the event. Registration closes on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at noon.

“This year, we are offering both industry and technical mock interviews for students, facilitated by Engineering Young Alumni,” said Marissa Miller, career counselor with the Office of Career Development and Corporate Relations. “Resume reviews will take place throughout the event and students can drop-in, first come, first served, for this resource.”

Interviews will be held in the Brown-Kopel Center. Students who sign up are asked to arrive 10 minutes early in order to check in and confirm their interview time. Students are asked to arrive in business casual attire. If a student needs help with their wardrobe, the Campus Career Closet is available to help.

In addition to gaining valuable interview practice and feedback, students will have the opportunity to attend resume review drop-ins with alum or career coach. It is best to bring a printed copy, both for the resume reviews and for the interview.

Students are encouraged to network with their alum after concluding their interview by requesting a business card if they did not receive one. This encourages students to stay in touch with their interviewer if they have any future questions.

“One of my favorite times in the fall is coming back on campus for mock interviews,” said Keith Dickey, monitoring and diagnostic analyst at Southern Power and Auburn mechanical engineering graduate. “It gives young alumni a great reason to come back, engage with students and help them as they prepare to move from the classroom to work after graduating. As a young alumnus, I feel well equipped to help with an event like mock interviews because I've recently been through the same process students are preparing for.”
