Aleksandr Vinel, associate professor in the Auburn University Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, was recently selected as area editor for the scientific journal Computers & Operations Research. Area editor is primarily responsible for organizing and overseeing peer-review processes for scientific papers submitted to the journal.

The journal’s Editor-in-Chief Francisco Saldanha da Gama nominated Vinel for the position.

“He showed very good editorial judgment,” Saldanha da Gama said. “He is rather young, but this is something that I valued when the time came to choose a new editor. In fact, we need young but competent people working as editors, of course together with more senior people.”

Saldanha de Gama added that Vinel’s research interests are broad and make him a very knowledgeable researcher.

“Overall, I saw in Alex someone who could be a good acquisition for the team of editors of Computers & Operations Research,” he said. “After a few months working as editor, I confirm that Alex was an excellent choice!”

Vinel accepted the role because of the reputation of the journal.

“Computers & Operations Research is a well-respected academic journal and one of the premier outlets for sharing cutting edge research in our field,” Vinel said. “It is an honor to play a role in shaping the future of the community by ensuring the continued excellence of published research.”
