Pradeep Lall, the MacFarlane Distinguished Professor and Alumni Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and the Director of the Auburn University Electronics Packaging Institute (EPRI), is the 2024 recipient of the Surface Mount Technology Association (SMTA) Founder’s Award. The Founder’s Award, SMTA's highest honor, recognizes members who have made exceptional contributions to the electronics manufacturing industry, and to the SMTA. The award was conferred at the 40th SMTA Conference in Rosemont, Illinois.

At just three days old, Emerson “Emmy” Wild had her first seizure. At three weeks old, she received a life-changing diagnosis. She had KCNT1-related epilepsy, a rare form of treatment-resistant epilepsy with around 3,000 known cases worldwide. Through her ongoing involvement on campus, mom and Auburn alumnae Alex eventually connected with the Department of Mechanical Engineering with the idea to create a customized toy that Emmy could use.

Jeff Suhling, Quina Distinguished Professor and chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, has been awarded the William Chen Distinguished Service Award from the IEEE Electronics Packaging Society (EPS). The award annually recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the EPS through service and leadership. It was, to say the least, well deserved.

These alumni include four who were recognized as Distinguished Auburn Engineers, one as an Outstanding Young Auburn Engineer and a mechanical engineering professor emeritus for Superior Service. The council also honored alumnus Charles Gavin, ’59 textile engineering, who will receive an honorary doctorate of science at the December commencement ceremonies.
