Research
Our research seeks to exploit material science and structural mechanics to create multifunctional materials for a wide range of applications including aerospace, marine, energy, and biomedicine. Functionalities that we investigate include self-sensing, self-healing, self-degrading, stimuli-responsive and self-reinforcing.
A multidisciplinary and collaborative approach forms the backbone of what we do and we work closely with polymer chemists, materials engineers, and mechanical engineers to create the next generation of intelligent materials. A large part of our work involves the development and mechanical characterization of novel fiber reinforced composites using the latest techniques in composites manufacturing and mechanical testing.
