The Department of Chemical Engineering at Auburn University will host the inaugural BIO-SENS Industry-Academic Biotechnology Symposium on July 27 at the Brown-Kopel Center. Industry professionals and academics will converge to share new knowledge and experiences, and collaborate for the future on projects related to the field of biomanufacturing.
“The BIO-SENS symposium will bring together biotechnology students, faculty and industry professionals to discuss the current state and plan the future of biomanufacturing in Alabama and the nation,” said the symposium’s lead organizer Robert Pantazes, assistant professor of chemical engineering.
The symposium will feature student presentations, academic and industry keynote speakers, panel discussions and networking to begin building connections and collaboration across industry and academia.
“Ultimately, the intention of the symposium is to build the biotechnology and biomanufacturing workforce, identifying through conversations between industry and academia what training is needed and what resources are needed,” Pantazes explained.
The symposium will feature a series of panel discussions followed by question-and-answer sessions, with the morning focused on the research activities Pantazes and his collaborators have undertaken related to electrochemical biosensors and the afternoon shifting to highlight different perspectives in the biomanufacturing workforce.
A select number of travel awards are available to students or industry members attending the symposium to present a poster or participate on a panel. Interested participants much complete the application form and provide a letter of recommendation for consideration.
Registration for the BIO-SENS symposium closes on July 20. Further details about the event, including hotel information, can be found at the registration website.
