My research interests are in the design of sustainable systems using ecological engineering principles for the recovery of pollution and the provision of biomass, all ecological services that should be expanded in an increasingly technological society. I am interested in the engineering of cultivation systems for photo-autotrophic organisms to balance societal hetertrophic processes. Understanding the coupling between autotrophic and heterotrophic systems that include humans is key for designing sustainable systems in the future. My research seeks to model those couplings through candidate eco-technologies such as algae cultivtion for process and performance yields.
