The NextPAVE Challenge is a competition aimed at validating innovative technologies for longer-lasting flexible pavements. By leveraging cutting-edge modeling, laboratory tests and closely controlled field experiments in hot and cold climates, the challenge will accelerate the adoption of pavement technologies for better-performing and more efficient highways for generations to come.

Technologies submitted to the NextPAVE Challenge may fall into one of the following categories:
Technologies applied to the pavement surface, such as surface rejuvenation, friction treatments, noise-reducing surfaces and preservation treatments.
Technologies incorporated within the asphalt mixture, such as mix additives, alternative binders and chemical additives.
Technologies applied to layers beneath the asphalt, such as soil or base stabilization methods.
Innovative pavement technologies and approaches that do not fall within the other three categories.
Examples are not exhaustive. Other relevant technologies are welcome.
The NextPAVE Challenge is guided by an experienced steering committee representing government agencies, research institutions and private industry.
