These
4 foot tall and 18 inch wide hexagonal prisms use
the principle of thermal mass to capture solar energy
in the winter and absorb excessive interior heat in
the summer. They help to moderate temperature fluctuations
in the house because water has a good ability to store
and release heat, as do the tiles on the floor of
the dogtrot. In addition to their energy function,
these hexagonal prisms refract the incoming sunlight
into spectral beams.
