The
Solar Decathlon, sponsored by the United States Department
of Energy, is challenging students at our nation’s
universities to consider, “What makes a good
house?" Auburn University's response is a home
that captures and recycles solar energy, while providing
all of the comforts of a traditional southern home.
The
Solar Decathlon is an intercollegiate competition
to design and operate a solar powered house. A multidisciplinary
team of students and faculty from Auburn’s Samuel
Ginn College of Engineering and the College of Architecture,
Design, and Construction, are competing against teams
from thirteen other universities to harness the power
of solar energy. For eight days, these teams will
attempt to power a modern lifestyle -- including a
550 square foot home, a home based business, and an
electric car -- using only energy from the sun. |
