Located
in the home office of our solar home, we have software
running that will allow us to predict solar energy
yields and schedule needed appliances throughout the
day. The software was designed by Dr. David Umphress
of the Computer Science and Software Engineering department
of Auburn University.
The
software utility, nicknamed The Command
Center, was developed over the course of two semesters
by two groups of software engineering students. Wanting
the software to be more verbose and platform independent,
the students wrote the command center as a java application.
The main function of the command center is to predict
a theoretical solar energy yield on an hour-by-hour
basis.
