The
system was designed to periodically download weather
information from the internet weather site AccuWeather.com.
Using an algorithm developed by the students, the
system will predict how much solar energy a certain
area of the world will be receiving. At any point
in the day, you will be able to see the predicted
value for ten hours in the future and 6 hours of past
data. All this information is plotted onto a graph,
so at a glance an occupant will know how much energy
there will be at a certain hour of the day.
The
command center also provides appliance power tracking
and scheduling. This feature comes with the ability
to show were an appliance is located in the home and
if that appliance will have enough power to run during
the scheduled time. Warnings are displayed to the
user in the event of scheduling conflicts that will
produce a power shortage.
Users
will also be able to post family news or notes onto
the screen. The command center was designed with capabilities
to broadcast real-time information from the contest
to the web. Information logs are synced with a server
on the Auburn University campus and are then viewable
on the internet.
