Most
of the materials used in the house are finished
to reveal their material identities. Paint pigments
are reserved for the surface finishes of elements
that are intended to be abstracted as symbolic of
the sun and the elements of nature and site. Examples
include: the sundial, the rain harvesting north
gutter and tank, and the diagonal lines focalizing
on the Washington Monument.
