The Auburn University Center for Polymer and Advanced Composites is hosting its 6th annual Graduate Summer Seminar Series starting May 30.

The seminar series is an opportunity for graduate students to share their research and foster interdisciplinary research collaboration at Auburn. It is open to all Samuel Ginn College of Engineering departments whose research topics are impacted by polymer composites.

The seminar will feature lightning talks which will be in 3-minute thesis format and include one slide. In addition to lightning talks, there will be longer oral talks which will last approximately 10 minutes.

Participants may submit abstracts for a chance to be selected to give a presentation during the seminar series. Those not selected for long presentations may be given the opportunity to give a lightning talk.

“This practice has a significant impact on the success of students who will one day be giving presentations at conferences, in defense of their thesis or dissertation, and in their future careers,” said Russell Mailen, assistant professor of aerospace engineering.

All presenters will be asked to participate in peer evaluations following the series.

“The feedback from researchers across campus to presenters provides them with new perspectives and ideas for enhancing their research efforts,” said Edward Davis, the graduate program officer for the Department of Materials Engineering. “More broadly, by bringing together researchers from across campus, the program helps to foster collaboration and promote the research efforts of the University.”

The talks will start at 11 a.m. in Ross Hall, Room 136 and take place on May 30, June 13, June 27, July 11, July 25 and August 1.

“It is very motivating for me to see the breadth and depth of research graduate and undergraduate students conduct in polymers and composites across Auburn’s campus. The CPAC summer seminar series allows these talented researchers to showcase their efforts to peers similarly focused on polymer research,” Davis said.
