Jenny Sconyers, a former student services coordinator for the Office of Student Services in the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering — and Auburn University’s newest Employee of the Year — has been hired as student initiatives administrator, a brand-new position within the college.

In her former position, Sconyers recruited students from college fairs and special events. She was responsible for bringing in 77% of the female high school juniors and seniors she visited and securing their place in the College of Engineering’s 2019 freshman class.

Jeffery Fergus, associate dean for undergraduate studies and program assessment, said Sconyers’ primary role in her new position will be to support and give guidance to Auburn Engineering student organizations through fundraising efforts and activity planning, and by connecting them with administrative offices that can facilitate each organization’s goals and mission.

“We realized that our student organizations could use some support to be more effective,” Fergus said. “We saw there was a need to help organizations be active and involve more students.”

Fergus said that by adding this position, the Office of Student Services hopes to boost participation in student initiatives and enhance the quality of the experience.

“I am thrilled to begin my new role,” Sconyers said. “I want to help every engineering student find their place to connect with other students with similar interests. I am so excited for the opportunity to work alongside our amazing engineering student organizations and their leaders as we continue to make Auburn’s the best student-centered engineering experience in the country.”
