Jenny Sconyers, a student services coordinator in the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering's Office of Student Services, is one of Auburn University's newest Employees of the Year.

“The university could not select a more deserving employee for this honor than Jenny," said Jessica Taylor, the college's director of recruiting and scholarships. "It has been exciting to watch her use her gifts and talents to recruit the best engineering students."

Each month, Auburn University Human Resources recognizes up to four employees as Spirit of Excellence recipients. Of the approximately 40 monthly winners throughout the year — Sconyers earned the Spirit of Excellence award in 2019 — four are selected as Employees of the Year, one for each Spirit of Excellence category.

Sconyers was selected as the Employee of the Year in the Administrative / Professional category.

In addition to the recognition, recipients receive $3,000.

In her role as on-campus and off-campus recruiter for the College of Engineering, Sconyers frequently travels to college fairs and special events.

"She truly has developed real relationships with students and parents across the country," Taylor said. "Jenny continues to elevate our recruiting efforts. Because of her hard work, the College welcomes an extremely talented group of incoming students each year."

Over the past year, Sconyers has also significantly improved the office's recruiting efforts, which included organizing a recruiting event for prospective female high school juniors and seniors, 77% of whom secured their place in the college's 2019 freshman class.

"That was a direct result of the time and effort Jenny put into organizing that event," Taylor said, "but you can see her love for Auburn in everything she does.”

Sconyers will soon transition to a new position inside the college — student initiative administrator.

“I’m so honored to receive this award,” Sconyers said. “I wasn’t expecting it, but it feels like the perfect segue to the next chapter in helping Auburn provide the best student-centered engineering experience in the country.”

Taylor agrees.

“I hate to lose her,” she said, “but I am so excited that her hard work was recognized this year.”
