2022-2023 Tim Cook Scholars Recipients

Maddy McGeeMadison McGee is a senior studying industrial and systems engineering with a minor in supply chain management. During her time at Auburn, she had been involved in the Honors College and Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers, and has served at Esperanza House and tutored through the engineering Office of Student Services. She is grateful for the community she has been a part of while involved in the Society of Women Engineers. This organization seeks to encourage and equip women engineers both at Auburn and in their future careers.

Madison is currently in the Leadership Development Program, a highly competitive internship through her church. In this position, she helps manage the logistics of community groups, leads a group of 10 students, serves as a team lead for baptisms, and organizes various community events. She is also serving as a peer mentor through the college of engineering. She loves having the opportunity to help develop and encourage younger female engineers.

This summer, Madison will be working at Texas Instruments as an industrial engineering intern which will involve several independent projects that will benefit the company and give her hands-on manufacturing experience.

After graduation, Madison plans to utilize her talents and interests in both engineering and supply chain management to add value in the manufacturing sector or to potentially contribute in the nonprofit world.

She would like to thank Mr. Cook for this generous scholarship and the impact it has had on her time at Auburn.

Alex Washburn HeadshotAlex Washburn is a rising junior studying industrial and systems engineering with a minor in business engineering technology. He is originally from Blountsville, Ala.

Alex chose to study industrial and systems engineering because his passion is helping and providing support for others. Following his freshman year, he was able to participate in an undergraduate research project for the civil engineering department over the summer. The project’s goal was to study the structural failure of large area maintenance systems for the Air Force caused by strong winds. Through this research, Alex states that he gained many valuable skills and experience from the professors and undergraduate students that assisted with the project.

Alex has been involved in the co-op program at Auburn University. Through this program, he has accepted a co-op position as a research and development engineer for RAPA, a manufacturing company. He accepted this position because he wanted to broaden his knowledge of engineering not common in the traditional industrial and system engineering setting. There he hopes to learn valuable lessons that will help him become a more well-rounded industrial engineer.

In his spare time, Alex volunteers with mission projects at a local church, helping with the videography during Sunday worship, and attends church projects throughout the year.

After completing his undergraduate studies, Alex plans on pursuing an industrial and systems engineering master’s degree at Auburn University and to continue working with the church in missions. He believes that the greatest way to live life is to serve others.
