Core Courses
  • COMP 7270: Advanced Algorithms - 3 Credit Hours (required)
  • COMP 7300: Advanced Computer Architecture - 3 Credit Hours (required)
  • COMP 7500: Advanced Operating Systems - 3 Credit Hours (required)
  • COMP 8990: Dissertation Research - 24 Credit Hours
Transferred Credits

A total of 27 credit hours will be transferred from the Master’s degree program.

Total Credit Hours: 60

Ph.D. Qualifying Exams and General Oral Examination

The Ph.D. Qualifying Examination will be successfully fulfilled by earning a B or higher in each of the three (3) core graduate courses:

  • COMP 7270: Advanced Algorithms
  • COMP 7300: Advanced Computer Architecture
  • COMP 7500: Advanced Operating Systems

This demonstrates a student’s proficiency in key areas necessary for their research and academic success.

In the General Oral Examination, a Ph.D. student will present to the advisory committee a thorough description of the proposed dissertation research. The successful completion of this exam requires unanimous approval from the advisory committee.

Notes
  • The qualifying exams will be passed by earning a B or higher in each of the three required graduate courses.
  • A maximum of 30 hours of COMP 8990 can be applied toward the degree.
  • A maximum of 30 credit hours can be transferred from the Master’s degree program.
