Meet Scott Bagwell, Auburn Engineering Online's new media production manager. He currently oversees the production of more than 170 engineering distance (online) courses as well as the production of some distance courses for the College of Business.

Q: Tell me about your education background.
A: Bachelor of Arts in communication from Auburn University in August 2011

Q: Describe your role for Engineering Online
A
: I oversee all classes that we record in Ramsay, Shelby, Lowder and Horton Hardgrave Hall and make sure the classes are recording into the correct location so that online students can watch the classes either live or later. I also work to ensure that all classes are at the high standard that we work hard to achieve, and help schedule graduate engineering distance courses. Finally, I work with other departments to keep all our classrooms and control room working at a high level.

Q: What was your job before this?
A
: Previously I served as media production specialist for Engineering Online, where I managed the courses that Engineering Online records for College of Business.

Q: Is this the type of job you’ve always seen yourself having, and if not, what was?
A
: My dream growing up was to be a sports play-by play-broadcaster.

Q: When and how did you become interested in this type of work?
A: I come from a family of teachers. My grandfather on my dad’s side was a professor. Grandmother on my mom's side was a teacher. My wife, mother, and brother are all teachers. So even though I am not teaching, I am helping students continue their education. I also have done a good bit of production work and always enjoyed it. Making sure everything operates smoothly and solving problems that occur is fun for me.

Q: What do you enjoy most about your job?
A: Helping students continue their education. Growing up, my parents always preached to me the importance of education.

Q: Tell me about your family and what you enjoy doing in your free time.
A: I married my wife, Sara, in March 2023. And we have a 1-year-old mini golden doodle named Riggs. During my free time I enjoy going to Auburn athletic events and traveling.
