CPAC hosting second annual virtual colloquium

The Center for Polymers and Advanced Composites at Auburn University will host its second annual Colloquium virtually on Nov. 15, 2021.
This colloquium is sponsored by NASA and will bring together innovators and leaders from various industries such as aerospace, defense, polymer and composite. The event will include presentations from JD McFarlan III, ’84 mechanical engineering graduate and vice president of functional engineering at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics; John Vickers, NASA Principal Technologist; Erin Richardson, ’92 materials engineering graduate and Aerospace Research Engineer at NASA; and John Tomblin, Executive Director of the National Institute of Aviation Research.
“The colloquium will provide a communication forum for the technical exchange of ideas, building networks and relationships amongst the engineering and scientific community having a mutual interest in composites,” said Maria Auad, Charles Gavin Distinguished Professor, associate dean for graduate studies and faculty development and CPAC director.
During the event, participants will be able to listen, and interact with, an interdisciplinary and well-known group of speakers. Additionally, they will share their perspectives about the unique properties of composite materials in emerging applications, according to Auad.
Attendees will have the opportunity to network with professionals from organizations such as NASA, Lockheed Martin and Wichita State University. They will also interact with Auburn University faculty and students to learn about opportunities for innovative research and collaboration.
Headquartered in the Gavin Engineering Research Laboratory, CPAC has been offering expertise in development, manufacturing and testing of polymers and composites since its establishment in 2015. CPAC has benefitted economic growth in the southeast by becoming a regional leader for research, graduate education and collaborative outreach in polymer and composite engineering.
