Auburn Engineering to offer free virtual lectures on biomechanics to alumni, public

The Department of Mechanical Engineering is condensing the most popular material from a recently developed “Biomechanics and Engineering in the Arts” study abroad program into an online lecture series that Auburn alumni and members of the general public can virtually attend free of charge.
The four-part series starts Thursday, Sept. 3, and will be led by the study abroad program faculty lead and assistant professor of mechanical engineering Michael Zabala, and mechanical engineering lecturer Taylor Oldfather. Participants will learn about the relevance of the Renaissance to modern-day engineering, the life and scientific contributions of Leonardo Da Vinci, the biomechanics of ballet and the physics of music. Lectures will be given live over Zoom and last approximately 45 minutes, ending with an additional 30-minute question and answer session.
"It's a hard time for everybody in the Auburn Family right now, but this will be a fun way to stay involved with the university," Zabala said. "The lectures will be very laid back, interactive and they're free."
The schedule for the lectures is as follows:
Thursday, Sept. 3, 6-7:15 p.m. — The Renaissance
Thursday, Oct. 1, 6-7:15 p.m. — Leonardo Da Vinci
Thursday, Nov. 5, 6-7:15 p.m. — The Biomechanics of Ballet
Thursday, Dec. 3, 6-7:15 p.m. — Musical Vibrations and Acoustics
