Engineered Wood

Structure DesignStudents touring Structural Wood Systems

FOEN-6230

The goal of this course is to provide students with an understanding of wood construction and advanced-level knowledge of engineering procedures used in designing timber structures.

This course is intended to provide knowledge of structural loads and deflection criteria; sawn lumber and engineered wood component characteristics; analysis and design of wood beams, columns, tension members, and beam-columns; analysis and design of wood mechanical connections, analysis and design of metal-plate connected wood trusses, shear walls and diaphragms, timber bridges, and post-frame construction.

Click here to see the new bridge that was constructed at the Forest Ecology Preserve.  Students from Fall 2000 worked on the design of this bridge.
