Materials vary in their ability to store and transfer heat. Water is a substance that does both of these things very well. Using a special kind of heat exchanger, called a flat-plate solar collector, our home capitalizes on the ability of water to convert the energy of the sun into heat.

Our home makes use of thermal energy to heat water for a variety of household tasks such as washing dishes and taking showers. In addition, a radiant baseboard heating system will use this hot water to heat our home.
