Member Information Looking at the pie chart pictured above, we have about an equal number of members who have done either an internship or a co-op with various companies. These companies include: Graphic Packaging International ExxonMobil Southern Company Services Eastman Chemical Company The Dennis Group, LLC Intramicron, Inc. Georgia Pacific International Paper Nalco Water Occidental Chemical Corporation These industries range from everything from R&D to pulp and paper to oil and gas. Here are some descriptions of the work done for these companies, in the words of our members. "Beyond basic daily process monitoring, I lead a number of smaller projects in each of my three rotations. This included anything from modeling duty shift in our main fractionator, investigating and recommending options to mitigate salt deposition, scoping small capital projects, and investigating lab testing methods to name a few." "Under the watchful eye of a Southern Company engineer, I got to represent Southern Company's perspective as part of a team including NGOs, a startup company, and professors to explore the viability of using horizontal boreholes as a method of storing and, eventually, disposing of spent nuclear fuel. I then communicated updates on this project back to the Southern Company team I was working with." "Process Engineering in the Utilities, Pulp, and Paper departments. Did mostly cost reduction chemical trials and process optimization." "While working at both Exxon and Oxy, I gained valuable experience while implementing process improvement and optimization projects. Examples include designing a heat exchanger to increase cooling water velocity and prevent under deposit corrosion, working with operators to alleviate day-to-day unit upsets (e.g., tower flooding), and creating a program to streamline product blending."
