In this position, Mario Eden will support the AIChE Foundation’s efforts to expand scholarships, professional development programs and global initiatives that advance the chemical engineering profession.
Mario Eden, dean of engineering, has been named vice chair of the Board of Trustees of the AIChE Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.
His appointment, effective Jan. 1, positions Eden in a leadership role supporting the Foundation’s efforts to expand scholarships, professional development programs and global initiatives that advance the chemical engineering profession. He will serve in this role for two years with a planned ascension to the role of Chair on Jan. 1, 2028.
“The strength of our profession depends on how intentionally we cultivate leadership and innovation,” said Eden, who was elected as an AIChE fellow in 2024. “I’m honored to serve in this role and to help guide philanthropic efforts that will broaden participation, elevate excellence and position chemical engineers to make an even greater global impact.”
As vice chair, Eden will continue to help lead fundraising efforts for AIChE’s Summer School for Chemical Engineering Faculty Endowment.
Eden is part of a newly announced leadership team that includes Foundation Chair Michael J. Graff, former chairman and CEO of American Air Liquide Holdings Inc.
“We are dedicated to cultivating a Foundation board and leadership that mirrors our global membership, ensuring we are able to support the Institute’s mission and engineer impact,” said Natalie R. Krauser, executive director of the AIChE Foundation.
New trustees will serve three-year terms, renewable up to three consecutive terms.
AIChE is a professional society of more than 60,000 members in more than 110 countries. Its members work in corporations, universities and government using their knowledge of chemical processes to develop safe and useful products for the benefit of society. Through its varied programs, AIChE continues to be a focal point for information exchange on the frontier of chemical engineering research in such areas as nanotechnology, sustainability, hydrogen fuels, biological and environmental engineering, and chemical plant safety and security.
