Addy Lee, a senior in software and computer engineering from Birmingham, has been writing the code for success. The honor’s student has done multiple internships, creates prototypes in the Makerspace and leads the way for future engineering students as a Cupola Engineering Ambassador.
Why Auburn
“I loved Auburn because I grew up close by and my brother was a fan. I started looking into engineering programs, and I found Auburn to be a great fit. I’ve loved my experience here.”
Why engineering
“I took a coding class in high school and enjoyed the problem-solving aspect of it. I like computer science because it’s so broad and there’s a lot you can do with it. That’s how I ended up getting into robotics at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, which has a great internship for robotics. I’m working on the Zip app for my senior design project, which is designed to call golf carts on Auburn football gamedays.”
Internships
“I’ve completed two internships since coming to Auburn. One was at Los Alamos with the Robotics & Automations Summer School, which I did because I was looking for opportunities to get into robotics. I’ve also co-oped at McLeod Software in Birmingham. I think it’s very important for freshman to be able to see what it’s like to work in their industry, so that was a great opportunity for me to learn what working in my preferred field looks like.”
Makerspace
“I’ve been involved with the Makerspace since my freshman year as a maker’s assistant, and I’m now the prototype shop lead. We have our queue system for students coming in who want to make prints, and then we train people on how to use our technology to make their prints. I love the Makerspace. I’ve been able to create a lot of my own projects.”
Cupola Student Engineering Ambassadors
“I didn’t know what Cupola was when I first came to Auburn because I wasn’t able to go on a tour myself, but I met a few people who were doing it and thought it was awesome. I became an ambassador because I really wanted to contribute to the new classes coming in. I feel that it’s been very easy to give tours here because Auburn sells itself. The campus is beautiful, and the students are happy.”
