Jenna Sapong

Jenna Sapong is a sophomore in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. She is from Johns Creek, Georgia, and a goalkeeper on the Auburn women’s soccer team and the Ghana U-20 team.

Why Auburn?

“I applied originally because I knew Auburn had an amazing engineering program. When applying to schools, I was also going through the recruiting process for soccer. When I was accepted to Auburn, I contact the coaches who then watched me play at a club showcase in March of my senior year and was invited on an official visit to learn more about Auburn. . Before my tour started, I knew I loved Auburn just by driving around campus. That cemented Auburn being the place for me.”

Why Mechanical Engineering?

“I knew I wanted to do engineering biomechanics in sports through building equipment and when looking at the mechanical engineering curriculum at Auburn, I knew it was the right path for me. I also had two teammates who were pursuing the same route, and they inspired me to enter the program.”

Auburn Women’s Soccer?

“This year was a testament to hard work paying off. We know our end goal was winning, which keeps us on the same page, and we all act as a support team for each other, so I know I always have someone behind me.”

Future Goals?

“I want to get an MBA and work in sports engineering, specifically biomechanics. I’ve always had the idea of combining my passion for sports and engineering into developing equipment that can be used to further enhance the game. Whether it’s gear for the game or prosthetics for aspiring athletes, I know that’s where I want to get involved.”
