Avry Prewitt

Avry Prewitt, ’24 civil and environmental engineering, is a graduate student in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and is from Birmingham, Alabama. She’s a Woltosz Fellow, the vice president of Chi Epsilon and was the graduation marshal at the fall 2024 graduation.

Why Auburn?

“My mom went to Auburn, and my dad's side of the family is full of proud alumni. I knew of the character of Auburn alumni and the family atmosphere at Auburn. In my mind, Auburn meant integrity, humility, dedication and community. Although I grew up knowing about Auburn, I didn't fall in love with it until becoming a student. Everything my family reminisced about and loved about Auburn became a part of my story, too. From incredible faculty and meeting my best friends — Auburn feels like home.”

Why Civil and Environmental Engineering?

“I started off as structural engineering, but I started talking with a professor of mine and found myself with an internship at Jacobs Engineering Group working on wastewater management. Prior to this, I had only taken hydraulics but the class and my internship made me fall in love with environmental engineering, and I haven’t looked back since.”

Chi Epsilon

“Chi Epsilon has been tremendously impactful in my leadership experience and my connections with peers and academic resources. I had never held a leadership position before so becoming vice president was significant in my college journey and development as a student and engineer.”

Future Plans?

“I’ve been lucky enough to receive a Woltosz Fellowship so I’ll be continuing my studies at Auburn with Mark Barnett, professor in civil and environmental engineering. We will be researching water and wastewater infrastructure in the Black Belt region and the effects on cost analysis and environmental justice.”
