To better reflect its aspirational vision, the Auburn University Samuel Ginn College of Engineering has rebranded a student support program as the Center for Inspiring Engineering Excellence (CI2E).

The mission of CI2E, which was previously known as the Center for Inclusive Engineering Excellence, is to provide support for engineering students, especially those from underrepresented populations, by assisting with the transition into college through graduation.

Serving more than 200 students annually, CI2E offers academic and professional development opportunities, mentorship and peer learning, as well as collaborative study groups, workshops, career readiness programs, financial awards and a community of peers. The program is open to all students.

Tamara McClain, director of CI2E, said the program will continue to serve Auburn students as it has always done.

“CI2E will continue to recruit, retain and graduate academically qualified students, particularly those from underrepresented populations,” she said. “Our program is dedicated to preparing students to confidently navigate through their Auburn Engineering experience and take their next steps toward finding a successful career after graduation.”

Launched in 1996, CI2E plays a vital role in increasing and enhancing the retention of engineering students. The program has been generously supported by companies such as BellSouth, AT&T and Alabama Power and, before its current name, was known as the Minority Engineering Program and the Engineering Academic Excellence Program (AEP).

CI2E accomplishes its mission in close collaboration with the college’s existing student services partners, including the offices of Recruiting, K-12 Outreach and Scholarships; Engineering Student Services; and Career Development and Corporate Relations.

Mario Eden, dean of engineering, said CI2E is vital to ensuring that all students within the college feel welcomed, valued, respected, engaged and prepared to handle the rigors of an Auburn Engineering curriculum.

“CI2E is a very important program within the college,” Eden said. “Dr. McClain and her staff are dedicated to ensuring that all students within the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering receive the best student-centered experience in America.”
