David Timm, the Brasfield & Gorrie Professor in Auburn University’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, has been selected to receive the 2024 Eugene Skok Award from the National Road Research Alliance (NRRA).
This award is given annually to individuals who have made significant or innovative contributions to the pavement industry in the United States. The award will be presented in April to Timm at the NRRA Pavement Conference in Shoreview, Minnesota, where he will also give the keynote address.
The NRRA is a consortium of 14 state transportation departments and over 80 industries, agencies, associations and academic institutions to improve the future sustainability of U.S. roads through research and a commitment to cooperative implementation. The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) and the Minnesota Road Research Facility (MnROAD) were a founding member of the NRRA, which partnered with Auburn’s National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) to advance pavement engineering, focusing on important national issues impacting highway infrastructure since 2015.
"I was deeply honored and humbled to have been selected for this award,” said Timm upon learning of his selection. “As a graduate student at the University of Minnesota, I was fortunate to have worked with Dr. Skok on several projects, and he was a tremendous mentor to me early in my academic career. I was also excited that the research we’ve accomplished at NCAT, and through the NCAT/MnROAD partnership, is being recognized nationally for its practical impact on highway infrastructure.”
The Eugene Skok Award was established in 2015 in honor of Dr. Eugene Skok, a well-known instructor, researcher and mentor to many pavement engineers in Minnesota. Timm received his bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in civil engineering from the University of Minnesota.
Timm’s research interests include asphalt pavements, full-scale pavement testing, flexible pavement structural modeling and pavement design and analysis.
