The Passport to Your Engineering Experience Lunch and Browse offers students a one-stop-shop for exploring pathways to gain valuable engineering experience during their college career. Hosted by the Engineering Office of Career Development and Corporate Relations (CDCR), the event takes place on Wednesday, Jan. 24, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the Brown-Kopel Center and will feature representatives from campus organizations as well as companies offering co-op and internship opportunities.

“This event is open to all students interested in gaining engineering experience, but we are marketing directly to freshmen, sophomores and juniors who wish to gain experience through co-ops and internships, undergraduate research, global programs and student organizations,” said Marissa Miller, CDCR assistant director of career coaching and programs. “These experiences are highly valued by employers when applying for future positions, as they demonstrate self-initiative and skill development.”

Attendees can expect to learn more about Auburn Engineering Global Programs, student organizations, undergraduate research opportunities, co-op and internship employers and experiences and on-campus employment. Companies in attendance offering information on co-op and internship opportunities will include Brasfield & Gorrie, Harbert College of Business IT Department, IntraMicron, McLeod Software, Montgomery Water Works, the National Center for Asphalt Technology, RAPA – Rausch & Pausch and more.

“Gaining experience, both inside and outside of the classroom, has a positive impact on a student’s career development process. It is beneficial for students to find ways to apply the knowledge and concepts they learn in the engineering classroom to high-impact practices,” Miller said. “In addition to gaining experience, it is essential for students to learn how to articulate their experiences and skills that have best prepared them for a future experience.”

The lunch and browse event will open with a panel discussion at 11 a.m., which Miller recommended to those planning to attend.

“The panel will have representatives from each area sharing more about how to engage with each high-impact practice, and then the browse will kick off at 11:30,” she said.

The event is open to all – no registration required. Lunch will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
