The Cupola Engineering Ambassadors are providing the perfect opportunity to get outside and enjoy the spring weather. The inaugural Engineering Pickleball Tournament will be hosted on Saturday, March 18 at the Auburn University pickleball courts on W. Thatch Avenue.
This fundraising event will require a $15 entry fee per doubles team and check-in will begin at 9 a.m. with play starting at 9:30 a.m. Equipment will be provided but participants are allowed and encouraged to bring their own.
All proceeds from this event will go directly to support the Auburn student chapter of Engineers Without Borders (EWB), specifically their mission trips to Guatemala and Bolivia to provide reliable access to clean water for developing communities.
“The Bolivia team is focused on implementing an irrigation system to enable year-round irrigation for about 100 families, and the Guatemala team is working to install a water distribution system for a municipality of about 250 families,” said EWB President Justus Smith. “These proceeds will help to cover the steep project costs for these ambitious endeavors.”
The increasing popularity of pickleball sparked inspiration for the Cupola Ambassadors.
“I don't think I've gone a week without one of my friends telling me about how they're going to play pickleball later that day,” said Brooke Howard, director of current students for Cupola. “It is something anyone can have fun doing, even if they have never played before. All experience levels are more than welcome.”
The Cupola Engineering Ambassadors’ mission is to “promote, unify and serve the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering” through leading engineering tours, hosting tailgates, organizing student appreciation events and more.
Registration for the event is open now at https://aub.ie/engineeringpickleball.
