In an effort to support collaboration between Israeli and U.S. institutions, Auburn University Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering Associate Professor Aleksandr Vinel will soon leave for Israel to take part in the 2022-23 Winter - Faculty Fellowship Program.
Vinel, along with Auburn University Harrison College of Pharmacy Professor Robert Arnold, is among 35 faculty participants from colleges and universities throughout the country.
Through the support of Jewish National Fund-USA’s Boruchin Fund and individual donors, the tour, in which more than 500 have already taken part, is a fully paid intensive program to Israel for full-time U.S.-based academics from recognized universities and learning institutions.
“Israel has a lot of amazing engineering research happening,” Vinel said. “It’s a great place to find opportunities for collaboration. I’m also always interested to learn about different cultures and I have never been to this area.”
Participating faculty will have the unique opportunity to meet with Israeli professors from their respective disciplines and with similar research interests with the goal of developing collaborations, research projects, co-authoring articles and establishing exchange programs between faculty and students. They will also be exposed to contemporary Israeli society, culture and historical sites. The program will take place Dec. 26 - Jan. 8.
Maria Auad, the Charles Gavin Distinguished Professor and associate dean for graduate studies and faculty development for the college of engineering, participated in the program last summer. She described the trip as an amazing opportunity.
“It was such a great chance for me to see a new country with a lot of opportunities for research and collaboration,” Auad said. “There is top-notch research taking place in Israel and it was exciting to witness first-hand. Dr. Vinel is in for an exciting and eye-opening experience.”
