Two civil and environmental juniors, both members of the Auburn chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers, recently took home first place in the international ASCE Innovation Contest at the recent ASCE 2022 Convention in Anaheim, California. One was Stanton Freeman. The other was 18-year-old Russian-speaking, civil engineering wunderkind Morgan Burk.

"The Innovation Contest challenged teams to reimagine our future infrastructure by creating an innovative solution that addresses one of the U.N. Sustainability Goals," said Auburn ASCE chapter advisor Mike Perez, assistant professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. "They had to identify, develop, investigate feasibility and show a business plan for visionary innovations to address infrastructure challenges."

Freeman and Burk nailed it

Hear Burk discuss SKY Environmental, her team's multipurpose material recovery center designed for mixed-waste handling in rural areas, on the latest episode of the award-winning #GINNing Podcast below, or on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Play, iHeartRadio or wherever you listen to your favorite podcasts by searching #GINNing.
