Auburn Engineering professors awarded editorships at top journals

Auburn Engineering faculty Bo Liu and Wei-Shinn (Jeff) Ku were recently appointed associate editors of prominent engineering journals published by the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society and IEEE Computer Society.

Liu has been named an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems, a scientific journal of the computational intelligence community. With monthly issues, the publication boasts an impact factor of 8.793 and features the theories, designs and applications of neural networks and machine learning systems.

Liu is an assistant professor of computer science and software engineering and directs the Computational Automated Learning Laboratory. His current research focuses on reinforcement learning, trustworthy automated learning (AL) and neural-symbolic AL.

Ku was selected as an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering, a data science and engineering journal with a multi-year impact factor of over 7. It features state-of-the-art activities in the knowledge and data engineering field.

Ku is a professor in the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering and serves as a program director in the Division of Information and Intelligent Systems of the Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering at the National Science Foundation. His research focuses on data management systems, data analytics, cybersecurity and mobile computing.

Liu and Ku’s new associate editor roles will enhance the visibility of Auburn University’s CSSE department, said CSSE chair Hari Narayanan.
