Eren Sakinc, a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, received a top honor at the Systems Engineering Research Center’s Doctoral Students Forum in November.

His paper, titled “Manufacturing Cost Prediction in the Presence of Categorical and Numeric Design Attributes,” won SERC’s Best Student Paper Award. As the award winner, Sakinc was also invited to present his research at SERC’s Sponsor Research Review.

“Receiving this award is a fantastic honor,” Sakinc said. “Much of the research presented at SERC is sponsored by the Department of Defense or military subcontractors, so I hope this recognition will open up new avenues for collaboration and allow me to advance my research in this area.”

Sakinc graduated from Auburn in August with a doctorate in industrial and systems engineering. He also holds a master’s degree in industrial and systems engineering from Auburn and a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from Gazi University in Turkey.

Sponsored by the Department of Defense, SERC is a university-affiliated research organization with more than 20 member universities, including some of the top engineering institutions in the country.
