Six Sigma Master Black Belt to Discuss "Lean Six Sigma"

Kavit Antani, six sigma master black belt with Black and Decker (US) Inc., will present a seminar on "Lean Six Sigma" (LSS) Wednesday, October 19. The one hour seminar will begin at 2 p.m. in 202 Dunstan.

Antani earned his master's degree in industrial and systems engineering from Auburn in 2000. His talk will provide an overview and review of the Six Sigma model. He will discuss key metrics, sigma levels, cost of failure and ways to combine LSS, and showcase the history of these programs within Black and Decker. This will include a summary of key roles and responsibilities, training and certification and real-world examples of how the company has benefited from the adoption.

LSS is a process performance methodology with a focus on how things are done. One of the foundations of LSS is statistical quality control; Lean Six Sigma defines process performance in terms of its mean and variance, with an emphasis on reducing the cost of poor quality. LSS does not explicitly provide a list of procedures and policies needed by an organization.
