The instructional mission of the Department of Mechanical Engineering is to provide its mechanical engineering graduates with the tools, skills and competencies necessary to understand and apply today's technologies and, through life-long learning, successfully develop and employ tomorrow's technologies.

The program is specially designed to assure all students have demonstrated capabilities in the core mechanical engineering topics including statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, mechanical design, computer aided engineering, heat transfer, mechanical measurements, and system dynamics/controls. Core related topics include fundamentals of electrical engineering and economics.

The design experience is interwoven throughout the curriculum starting with concepts introduced in two courses in the Freshman and Sophomore years and culminating in the capstone senior design sequence employing advanced computer process and control simulators and experimental control systems.

The Mechanical Engineering Program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.
