Community Impact Award

The Community Impact Award recognizes a faculty member whose research has positively impacted the local or global community, including social, educational, economic, or industrial benefits. This award celebrates research efforts that extend beyond academia to directly improve communities through innovation, collaboration, and addressing societal challenges. One award may be given annually with a $1,000 stipend.

Eligibility

  • Open to full-time tenure and non-tenure track faculty members within the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering (SGCOE).
  • Previous recipients of this award are not eligible.

Criteria

Nominations can be self-nominations. The nomination package is limited to five pages (12-point font and 1-inch margins), including a two-page letter summarizing the faculty member’s research impact on the community and up to three pages of other supporting information, all submitted as a single PDF document. Criteria for evaluation will include:

  1. Research with Community Impact: Evidence of tangible impact the research has had on the community, including improvements in social well-being, educational, industrial, or economic development.
  2. Engagement with Stakeholders: Active involvement of external stakeholders such as local governments, non-profits, or community organizations in the research.
  3. Innovation and Application: Innovation in applying research outcomes to real-world challenges, including the commercialization of research or adoption of solutions by industry or local entities.
  4. Recognition and Public Outreach: Any recognition for the research’s impact or outreach efforts, including media coverage, awards, or public presentations that highlight the research’s contribution to the community.
